Dr. Lila Knowlton-Grallert is originally from Massachusetts and attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst. It was there that she began working on farms and realized that she wanted to do that for the rest of her life. She has worked on many different types of farms, from a goat ranch in Mexico to a commercial dairy in Pennsylvania, and has found that her greatest joy is meeting and helping farmers and their animals. She received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania and moved to Northern New York shortly after graduation to work at North Star. Her veterinary interests include milk quality, calf care/management, and bovine and equine reproduction. She enjoys making music as a member of the Potsdam Community Band and spending time outdoors in the beautiful landscapes that the North Country has to offer.

Dr. Jennifer Groestch was born and raised in Albany, Minnesota on her family's dairy farm. It was at a young age that she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. She got her Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in Dairy Science. From there she went to the University of Minnesota to earn both her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine and her Masters in Public Health. Her veterinary interests include surgery, production medicine, and public health. In her free time she enjoys hiking, reading, and singing in the Potsdam Community Choir.
Alexa Pfaff studied Culinary Arts at Paul Smith’s College. She has lived and worked in Myrtle Beach, SC and Dallas, TX. She returned home to New York in 2012 where she began working as the office manager for Cow Care, now known as North Star Veterinary Services. She has two children - Cooper, 13 and Darci, 10. A lot of her spare time is spent with her family, playing the role of number one fan for their many sports and activities, which include wrestling, football, track, dance, ice skating, soccer, softball, and volleyball!
Dr. Willis “Bill” Pfaff started out on his own as “Cow Care” in 1999, providing veterinary services out of his house in Constable for clients in Franklin and Clinton counties. As the company grew, he took on a partner in 2007 and hired two more veterinarians in 2012 to continue to offer an expanding range of services to a larger clientele. In 2013, they renamed "Cow Care" as North Star Veterinary Services, and moved to an office location in North Bangor. Bill is passionate about his practice and continuing to provide quality veterinary services for all his clients. He and his wife Tanya have three children and three grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with his family and coaching the modified wrestling team for Malone Central School.
